This one may not sound as interesting as others\, but I went in 2022\, and it was my favorite Bellefontaine tour.\n\n"Steamship Captains of Bellefontaine… Whether we are talking pilots\, captains or owners the waterways and the ships that traversed those rivers helped define St. Louis and the region. At first it was every\nman\, or in this case -boat\, for himself. Soon\, the idea of setting timetables and set routes came to vision. Competition among private owners and groups will take form and leave casualties behind. Then there is the river. The superhighway of its time\, but a vexed spirt. Accidents and mishaps mean a short life for most ships and many who guide them."
