DESCRIPTION:St. Louis Historic Sites History Meetup\n**Destination**: This will be a weekend of traveling the Kaskaskia Trail - going from Chester\, IL up to Fults/Renault\, IL. This is areas 3 and 4 of the Kaskaskia/Cahokia Trail. Areas 1 and 2 of the Kaskaskia Trail are in our 30-mile radius around Forest Park\, so will not be included in the weekend trip.\n\nIf you wish to see some of the places we may visit\, go here:\nhttps://forgotten-illinois.org/illinois-first-road-tour-booklet/\nScroll to the bottom to begin at the south. Also\, note the picture on the last page of the brochure - that is a picture of our meetup group taken in 2016 when we visited the Peterstown Inn - that's me kneeling in the center in a red shirt!\n\n**HOTEL Info:**\nIt is possible to drive home each evening and not stay the night. However\, I'm staying each night and not driving.\n*Friday night* I have a room in Chester\, IL at the Baymont. Baymont Inn ($105-$115)\, 618-753-8677. Other options - more details below under Saturday: go to Ste Genevieve\, MO OR Maeystown\, IL OR RedBud\, IL and stay in a hotel/B&B in one of these towns.\n\n**Itinerary:**\nFriday afternoon: If you are there early enough:\nPopeye museum/store 1001 State Street (this is a shop that is open 10am-4pm).\n**Friday evening tentatively 6:30pm**\nConfirmed with Mary Ellen Brown\, Emily Lyons.\n1\\. Immaculate Conception Church in Kaskaskia\\\, IL 203 1st Street\\\, \\(this is over the river \\- I believe Kaskaskia\\\, IL is the only area of IL that is west of the Mississippi River\\)\\. The church traces its roots to 1675\\.\n2\\. Kaskaskia Liberty Bell of the West \\(right next to the church\\) France's King Louis XV gifted the 140\\-pound bell to the Catholic Church of New France \\(Immaculate Conception\\) following its casting in La Rochelle\\\, France in 1741\\. The bell rang in celebration after George Rogers Clark took Kaskaskia from the British on July 4\\\, 1778\\.\n\n**Saturday morning: Chester\, IL**\n(all places are small\, so won't take long)\n1\\. Chester Visitor's Center 9:00am confirmed with Brenda O\\)\n2\\. Randolph County Museum 9:30\\. 1 Taylor Street\\. confirmed with Emily\n3\\. Weistar House 10:15am \\- right next to museum 515 Chestnut St Confirmed with Brenda\n4\\. Coen House on the bluffs with its blue windows \\(Mark Twain wrote about this house\\) Confirmed with Brenda\n5\\. On own time either Friday evening or Saturday early morning: Popeye statues \\(each statue contains a QR code to learn more about the character\\)\\. There may also be time to squeeze in the Popeye Museum \\(Spinach Can Collectibles \\- 1001 State Street if you weren't able to see it Friday afternoon\\.\n\nLunch: St Nicholas Landmark Brew Pub in Chester. Address is 111 Ferry Street. Our docent for the afternoon recommended this place and may join us for lunch. The building dates back to 1830. Reservations in my name. We will be seated in the upstairs Riverview Dining area.\n\n**Saturday afternoon: Ellis Grove\, IL**\nWill meet at Overlook in Fort Kaskaskia\n1\\. Fort Kaskaskia state park\\. 4732 Park Rd\\\, Ellis Grove\\\, IL Confirmed with Shane\\. Shane will docent\\\, so bring a tip for him if you like\\!\n2\\. Pierre Menard house\\. 4230 Kaskaskia Rd \\(walking distance from Ft Kaskaskia\\) $5 cost Confirmed with Shane\\.\n\n**Saturday evening: Prairie Du Rocher\, IL**\nModoc Rock Shelter\nFrom here\, you can take a ferry over to Ste Genevieve to spend the night (several hotels/B&Bs to stay at)\,\nOR head 20 minutes north and spend the night in Maeystown at the *Corner George Inn Bed & Breakfast* https://www.cornergeorgeinn.com/ 618-580-5875 (average $135 a night pre-tax)\nOR spend the night 15 minutes east in Red Bud\, IL at the *Red Bud Country Inn* //www.redbudcountryinn.site/ 618-282-4444 (complimentary buffet breakfast - Looks to be about $80 a night pre-tax)\nOR drive the hour to hour and a half back home and come back Sunday morning!\n\nThe Connor B&B in Prairie du Rocher is booked\, and I have requests for all rooms.\n\n**Sunday morning: Prairie du Rocher\, IL**\n1\\. Creole House Confirmed \\(about 11ish\\) with Laurie U\\.\nLunch\n2\\. Fort DuChartres \\(after lunch\\) \\- 1pm \\- confirmed with Karyn A\n\n**Sunday afternoon: Fults\, IL**\nNative American Village / Nature Preserve\nThen back home.
