DESCRIPTION:St. Louis Historic Sites History Meetup\nNEW Event\nWill go again: 2033\nCost: Please bring a $5 donation\n\nThe Captain James Moore farmstead\, of which the Bellefontaine house is a part\, is one of the oldest American settlements in the Northwest Territory. Located along the Kaskaskia Trail\, it is the only place where visitors can view a surviving section of the original trail.\n\nIn 1782\, Captain James Moore received a 400-acre land grant from Patrick Henry\, the governor of Virginia\, in payment for his services in the Revolutionary War. He initially built a 1-room log cabin\; a replica can be seen on the grounds. His son eventually built the house we will see sometime in the early 1800s.
