Tour St. Charles Borromeo Church
St. Louis Historic Sites History Meetup
NEW Event
Will go again: 2033
Cost: Please bring $5 donation to church or docent
Unlike most church visits, this event will NOT include a service. The meetup is on Saturday and will include a tour of the church.
The first St. Charles Borromeo Church was a log church built in the French poteaux-en-terre style with vertical logs in 1791. A replica of this log church is still in the same location in St. Charles.
The current St. Charles Borromeo Church is the parish's fourth church and was dedicated in 1917, after the 3rd church was damaged in 1915. Inside is a memorial to St. Rose Philippine Duchesne. Another notable feature in the nave of the church are the blue clerestory windows. Our docent will provide stories about the church from its French founding in 1791 to the current church.
Nearby are both the Shrine of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne and the replica of the original log church.
