Member Lectures are available exclusively to Museum Members. Join today!
Celebrate America’s creative spirit with Amy Torbert, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Associate Curator of American Art.
In honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Torbert will offer an inside look at Picturing Independence, an exhibition exploring how artists have captured the ideals and symbols of a new nation. Discover 32 works—spanning 1770 to 2017—from the Museum’s collection, including silver by Paul Revere; paintings by Benjamin West and George Caleb Bingham; and prints by Jacob Lawrence, Marisol, and Fritz Scholder.
This lecture is part of a daylong Member preview celebration of Picturing Independence. The exhibition will be open to Members only from 10 am to 9 pm on Thursday, June 11. View the full celebration details here.
