The one-man concert, "A Story and a Song," is performed by Mountain Sam Wheelock. It is part love letter to life as a child in the Mountains of Eastern Tennessee, part modern electric folk music (rooted in the Southern Appalachians), and part memoir. Through his deep knowledge of the region's music, it is a heartfelt journey into the souls of a people.Growing up, he listened to the extended Carter Family play in an Aunt's front yard. Mountain Sam's mission, however, is to be respectful of that form, tipping his hat to pioneers like Bill Monroe, Stick and Brownie McGhee, while being active in the evolution of regional music. Mountain Sam Wheelock is a singer, songwriter, and storyteller. Some of Sam's credits include involvement with the Grammy-nominated radio series "Tennessee's Mountain Heritage," national and international advertising awards for Atlanta Journal-Constitution/Cox Communications and Auto Trader, ABC Productions, and movie credits in the "Addams Family" as well as the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez film "From Dusk till Dawn."In addition, Mountain Sam Wheelock was a featured performer in 2022 on season 17 of "Song of the Mountains," which is in nationwide reruns on 190 PBS stations, and the audio is rebroadcast on selected NPR affiliates.
