See the Bellefontaine House

St. Louis Historic Sites History Meetup NEW Event Will go again: 2033 Cost: Please bring a $5 donation The Captain James Moore farmstead, of which the Bellefontaine house is a part, is one of the oldest American settlements in the Northwest Territory. Located along the Kaskaskia Trail, it is the only place where visitors can view a surviving section of the original trail. In 1782, Captain James Moore received a 400-acre land grant from Patrick Henry, the governor of Virginia, in payment for his services in the Revolutionary War. He initially built a 1-room log cabin; a replica can be seen on the grounds. His son eventually built the house we will see sometime in the early 1800s.
